Processing Industry
Metal processing industry
Šibenik area has a rich heritage of industrial manufacturing, based mainly on
metal processing. TLM factory is the largest industrial complex in the county
giving job to 1,500 people. Recently, it
was purchased by the Consortium formed by the companies: Dalekovod, Aluflexpack, Zagreb montaža and Feal. Next to the rolled products manufacturing plant which
received significant investments in the recent years (over 50 milion EUR), currently
is underway the technical upgrade of the press plants producing aluminium profiles. ZM-Vikom, a company operating within the thriving Group Zagreb montaža, is developing at a fast
pace and is receiving significant investments.
Small ship-building industry
Remontni zavod Šibenik (Ship repair institute Šibenik) has a very long tradition in maintenance of ships
and equipment. Following its privatisation, the company changed the name in NCP – Remontno brodogradilište and
continued to develop the activities of maintenance and construction.
Food industry
Vinoplod-Vinarija Šibenik employs
around 250 workers and is involved in wine and other alcoholic beverages production.
It cooperates with a large number of small winegrowers in the county and
outside its borders. The company was privatised.
Manufacturing of construction material
The German company Knauf invested
significantly in the plaster products manufacturing plant in the area of Knin. Today
it earns more than 200 million HRK in revenues and employs around 120 workers.
In Drniš area, the company Girk Kalun
installed the production capacities for 100,000 tons of lime. The company is
one of the largest exporting companies in the county. The Knin based bolt
manufacturing plant has been partly restructured and the company is owned by
the Group DIV.
Trade
Retail and wholesale play an important role in terms of employment. Data from 2009 show that the trade sector accounts for 15% of the total number of employed persons in the county. The following large retail chains operate in the county: Konzum, Plodine, Lidl and Spar. A local trade company, Djelo, is also developing its own retail chain and is approaching the number of one hundred retail units, the majority of which is located in the county area.
Tourism
Mild Mediterranean climate, attractive coast with an impressive number of islands (285), abundance of cultural and historical monuments (St. Jacob’s Cathedral, a UNESCO monument), numerous natural beauties (two National Parks, the river Krka and Kornati archipelagos, two parks of nature, Vransko jezero and Velebit, two monuments of nature, Stara straža (the Old Guard) and Cetina’s spring, and seven significant landscapes) put the county on the map of renowned tourist destinations.
Šibenik-Knin County positioned itself with its 12 marinas on the European and world market as a leading nautical destination on the Adriatic coast and broader Mediterranean area.

Traffic Infrastructure
Road traffic – the county is crossed by the A1 motorway and
it has four entrances.
Longitudinal road directions passing through the county are the otorway A1
Pirovac – Vrpolje, Adriatic tourist road D8 Pirovac–Vodice–Šibenik–Primošten–Rogoznica,
and the state roads D1 Knin–Kijevo, D56 Skradin–Drniš, D58 Šibenik–Vrpolje and
D27. Transversal roads connecting the coast to the continental part of the
county are: state road D33 Šibenik–Drniš–Knin–BiH and D59
Knin–Kistanje–Kapela.
Sea traffic – The port of Šibenik is one of the oldest and best protected ports on the Croatian part of the Adriatic coast, benefitting from a natural protection from the influences of sea and wind. It specialises in transfer of bulk cargo. The capacity of the terminal is 400,000 tons per year, while the loading capacity amounts to 150 tons per hour. The terminal has a railway track (300m) and a packaging facility. The capacity of the bulk cargo terminal in import amounts to 1,000,000 tons per year, and the unloading capacity to 400 tons per hour. The terminal has two railway tracks (2 x 600m). The operation of the terminal is fully automated, controlling all transport systems for ship unloading, stocking the warehouses and direct or indirect loading of railway wagons. Significant investments were made in complete closing of the structure for unloading in order to ensure adequate environment protection.
Railway transport – The total length of the international railway track in the county is 149,294 km while the length of the regional track is 26,190 km. The main railway junction is in Knin where Una and Lika railways join and one railroad track continues towards Zadar. This junction avails of significant capacities for service and maintenance of trains and many other unused comparative advantages for a railway transport terminal.
Air transport: Šibenik is 60 km away from Split airport and 70 km away from Zadar airport.

- Polytechnics Marko Marulić in Knin (studies in Business trade and Entrepreneurship, Karst (limestone area) agriculture – production of plants, Karst agriculture – husbandry and Food technology)
- 13 secondary schools (industrial-crafts, economics, administrative-legal, transport-technical, medical and chemistry, tourist and catering, grammar schools, vocational school)
- Musical education: three primary schools and one secondary school
